Winter calls for Homemade Hot Cocoa

Uncategorized

January 2, 2015 by Drafts and Crafts

Day 2 of the new year and all I wanted to do was make some hot chocolate for the hubs and myself, but I was out of my usual stash of Nestle. What I did have though was all of the ingredients to make my own hot cocoa, even better!

{Time} 15 minutes
{Serving} 4 standard mugs-full

{Ingredients}

  • 4 cups of milk (ANY KIND! I use almond non-dairy milk)
  • 1/3 cup non-sweet cocoa powder
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup water
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1.  On the stovetop combine cocoa powder, sugar, salt, and water in a pot. Bring these ingredients to a boil by cooking over medium heat, stir occasionally.

2. Once the initial mixture boils, add in the milk and vanilla extract. Heat for about 5 minutes on low, medium, yet DO NOT bring to a boil. Stir occasionally.

3. Top with a marshmallows or a marshmallow snowman & enjoy the rich, warm sip!!

Happy New Year!!! I hope everyone is off to a good start and sticking to their resolutions thus far! I am pretty sure I already broke one of mine by eating french fries today.. Ooops!! But another resolution for me is to not to sweat the small stuff, so in that case, I am not going to beat myself up over it! The struggle is real!

With that being said, Jason and I still have colds — all I wanted today was some hot chocolate. I highly recommend throwing out all of your hot chocolate packets and going to get some cocoa powder! If you like to bake, then you probably already have all of these ingredients in your pantry! This recipe is super easy AND tastes much better than any generic hot chocolate; it is rich (not too rich) and slightly creamy. Nom, nom, nom!! Hope this sweet sip keeps in warm through winter!

May 2015 be the best year for you and your family! I am hoping to accomplish many new goals with my small business on Etsy. These “I just need one cup before a mimosa” mugs by Drafts & Crafts are going fast on Etsy, so if you were thinking about getting one for yourself or for your BFF, I would highly recommend doing so before they are sold out! I will be making new mug designs in 2015 too!

Keep in touch,
Dani
