DIY Santa Stop Here Banner (made with Target dollar section finds)

Craft Box

December 17, 2016 by Drafts & Crafts

Since we all love to visit the dollar section at Target, I thought I would share a quick DIY just in time for Christmas!

{Time} 30 mins

{Materials}

  • Material (we used a placement from the Target dollar section}
  • Paint maker, stickers, or stamp for writing
  • Scissors
  • Tape
  • Hot glue gun + glue sticks
  • Stick or skewers
  • Ribbon or string
  1. Plan out how you are going to cut your towel by folding it on a flat surface. I love the triangular look at the bottom!

2. Fold the towel over and make lines with a marker where you are going to cut.

3. Cut one side of the towel and use the scrap that you cut as a guide to cut the other side. This will ensure that both cuts are the exact same.

4. Hot glue the triangular edges so your banner will lay smooth. Take your time so that you can create a straight edge.

5.  If your material is too long like ours was: Cut the top of the material where you will be gluing your stick. Since my top had lines, I used them as a guide. If your material does not have lines, you could use a ruler to be sure that you cut a straight line.

6. Place a skewer (or 2) at the top of your banner. Hot glue the top over the skewers (our skewers were not long enough so we taped two together).

7. Tie your rope onto your skewers. I used a tab of hot glue to ensure that my rope would like come off.

8. Use a paint marker, stickers, or stamps to create a holiday slogan of your choice! We decided to write, “Santa stop here!”

My girlfriend, Ashlyn of Loba Design Co., and I decided a last minute Christmas craft was in order! Better late than never, right?! This crafts is super easy and all of the materials can be found in the dollar section at Target! Our material is actually a placement, but feel free to use ANY material. If your children are old enough, this would be a fun craft for them to join in on. I hope everyone is enjoying the Christmas season!! Please share any fun crafts that you made this season!

Keep in touch,
Dani

Winter Wonderland

Closet

December 15, 2016 by Drafts & Crafts

Tanner and I had the most wonderful visit to Virginia and DC last week! Today I am sharing our version of a winter wonderland!

{Coat: Gap} {Chambray: J. Crew}
{Jeans: J. Crew} {Boots: Nordstrom}
{Beanie: Target, similar}

{Tanner’s sweater & hat: Janie and Jack}
{Jeans: Gap} {Mocs: Gap}

For months I dreamt about the sweet week that I would take Tanner “up North” (anything is up North when you are from Florida). It was unreal taking our baby to the place where we lived for the three years before we got pregnant. I was beyond excited to get this little man in some cooler weather, but of course Tanner proved to be a true Florida, summer baby. While I loved sporting my new parka from Gap, Tanner hated putting his coat on and stayed with a red nose! Let me tell you, I have new appreciation for all of the moms who experience winter with small kids! I would be like, sorry kids we can not go out today because mama does not have the energy to get you dressed.

All in all, TC was a trooper and we enjoyed several outdoor activities. My girlfriend, Josie, took us to the most EPIC vintage and home decor shop called, The Old Lucketts Store. The Old Lockets Store is what winter wonderland dreams are made of- beautiful Christmas decorations and details everywhere!!! If you live or visit the DC metro area, I highly recommend taking a trip to the shop out in Leesburg. Leesburg is a cute town with an adorable, old downtown as well. What festive activities are on your agenda this week? I think we are headed to see Santa and check out Zoo Lights this weekend!

Dani

Countdown to Christmas Bucket List

Mommy & Misc

December 1, 2016 by Drafts & Crafts

There are many simple joys to experience while celebrating Christmas. This year I have decided to make a bucketlist now that we are a family of 3!

COUNTDOWN TO CHRISTMAS BUCKETLIST

  1. Take Tanner to see Santa
  2. Find matching PJs for the whole family to wear on Christmas Eve
  3. Make a Christmas ornament with Tanner
  4. Mail some holiday cards to family and friends because getting mail never goes out of style
  5. Visit a Christmas tree farm to cut down a real christmas tree
  6. Start a new family tradition: I am thinking baking cookies or hosting a Christmas brunch toy drive so that we can give back to our community
  7. Read a book about the meaning of Christmas to Tanner
  8. Watch a Christmas movie (we may or may not have already watched Home Alone!!)
  9. Listen to Christmas music and sing with Tanner
  10. Donate gently used sweaters, coats, and jackets

It is hard to believe that today is December first. It seems like just yesterday that I was pregnant and dreaming about what each holiday would be like with our baby boy!! We enjoyed our fall bucket list as a family of 3, so I thought, why not create one around Christmas time too? If you have children, I highly recommend that you get a chalkboard and create a bucket list with them! As you enjoy each activity on your list, allow your children to cross it off the list! I can’t wait until tanner is old enough to do this because I think it is awesome for some quality family time. We have already cut down a tree and watched a Christmas movie! I am hoping we will find the time to begin a new tradition this year. Year after year, the Lord blesses our family tremendously, I would love to begin a tradition where we could give back. I am a firm believer that anyone can make a difference, even if it seems small. I am dreaming about hosting a holiday bunch where everyone brings a toy to donate for a child in need. What are some of your family traditions and do you plan to start any new ones this year?
